Faith • Civilization • Theology welcomes original submissions in Christian theology, biblical studies, early Christianity, church history, religion and civilisation, ethics, culture, and related interdisciplinary fields.

Submission Requirements
Submissions should:
- Be relevant to the journal’s aims and scope
- Present a clear argument, research question, or central purpose
- Use reliable and appropriately acknowledged sources
- Be written in clear English
- Avoid plagiarism, fabricated references, invented quotations, and misleading claims
- Include the author’s full name, institutional affiliation or independent researcher status where applicable, and a short biographical note
- Include an ORCID identifier where available
- Disclose any relevant conflict of interest
Academic submissions should include appropriate citations and a bibliography using a recognised scholarly citation style. Authors should apply the chosen citation style consistently throughout the manuscript.
Author Manuscript Template
Authors are encouraged to prepare their submissions using the Faith • Civilization • Theology Microsoft Word manuscript template.
The template provides pre-formatted styles for:
- Article title and author information
- Institutional affiliation and ORCID
- Abstract
- Keywords
- Main body text
- Section headings and subheadings
- Long quotations and scriptural block quotations
- Footnotes
- Bibliography
- Page numbering
Use of the template is recommended but not compulsory. Authors may submit manuscripts in another clear and professionally formatted Microsoft Word document provided that the journal’s submission requirements are followed.

Abstract and Keywords
Academic research articles should normally include a concise abstract explaining the subject, approach, central argument, and principal conclusion of the article.
Authors should also provide relevant keywords to assist indexing and discovery.
Originality and Previous Publication
Authors should disclose whether the work has previously appeared elsewhere, including on a personal website, newsletter, institutional repository, academic network, or another publication platform.
Previously published material may be considered only when clearly disclosed and when republication rights permit it.
Substantially revised or expanded work based on an earlier publication should identify the earlier version when submitted.
Editorial and Peer Review
All submissions undergo an initial editorial assessment for relevance to the journal’s aims and scope, clarity, originality, responsible use of sources, scholarly quality, and overall suitability for publication.
A manuscript may be:
- Accepted
- Returned for revision
- Referred for external review
- Declined
Where specialist assessment would strengthen the editorial decision, a manuscript may be reviewed by one or more external reviewers with relevant subject knowledge.
Reviewers may recommend acceptance, minor revision, major revision, resubmission, or rejection.
Final publication decisions remain with the journal.
Editing and Production
Accepted manuscripts may be edited for grammar, clarity, formatting, structure, citation consistency, house style, and presentation.
Substantive editorial changes that materially affect an author’s argument or intended meaning will not normally be made without the author’s knowledge or approval.
Authors remain responsible for the accuracy of the final published work.
Artificial Intelligence
Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to Faith • Civilization • Theology.
Artificial intelligence tools may be used for limited assistance with language, grammar, organisation, formatting, or similar editorial tasks.
AI tools must not be used to fabricate:
- Sources
- References
- Quotations
- Evidence
- Historical claims
- Research findings
- Data
Material substantially generated or developed with AI assistance should be disclosed to the journal where appropriate.
AI systems cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.
Copyright
Authors retain copyright in their work unless a separate agreement states otherwise.
By agreeing to publication, authors grant Faith • Civilization • Theology permission to publish, display, archive, distribute, index, and promote the accepted work through the journal’s website and related scholarly channels.
Authors remain responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce third-party copyrighted material where permission is required.
Repository Self-Archiving
Authors may archive and share submitted, accepted, and published versions of their work in accordance with the journal’s Repository Self-Archiving Policy.
Authors are encouraged to include the complete journal citation and DOI or direct article link when sharing the final published version.
How to Submit
Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal’s online submission system.
Authors should complete the required article metadata and upload the manuscript file in Microsoft Word format unless otherwise specified.
Preliminary submission enquiries may also be made through the journal’s contact or submission-enquiries page.
Submission does not guarantee publication. All manuscripts remain subject to editorial assessment and, where applicable, external review.
Submission and revision checklist
- Submit an editable Microsoft Word file, with title, abstract, keywords and clearly identified headings.
- Use one recognised citation system consistently and provide complete bibliographic information.
- Remove avoidable identifying information when a manuscript is sent for anonymous review.
- Secure written permission for copyrighted images, tables or substantial third-party material before publication.
- Disclose funding, competing interests, prior dissemination and any use of generative AI relevant to the work.
- Keep the article number supplied at submission; use that same number for all correspondence and revised files.
Originality and preprints
Submission confirms that the manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration elsewhere and has not been published as the same work. Authors should disclose theses, conference papers, repositories, preprints or other earlier versions so that overlap can be assessed transparently.
Author responsibility
Every listed author must have made a meaningful contribution, approved the submitted and final versions, and accepted responsibility for the integrity of the work. Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors and do not replace the author’s duty to verify sources, quotations and claims.
After a revision request
Upload the revised manuscript and response document at Know Article Status using the original article number. Do not submit the revision as a new article.

Open access, copyright and fees
No author charges: The journal charges no submission fee, article-processing charge or publication fee. Editorial decisions are independent of an author’s financial circumstances.
Copyright: Authors retain copyright in their work. Upon publication, authors grant the journal the non-exclusive right of first publication and the continuing right to identify and preserve the version of record.
Licence: Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). Readers may share and adapt published material, including commercially, provided appropriate credit is given, a link to the licence is supplied, and changes are indicated.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that third-party images, tables, quotations and other material can legally be included under the article’s licence, or for clearly identifying different permission terms.
Metadata required for publication
The final publication record should include the article title and type; all authors and affiliations; ORCID identifiers where supplied; abstract and keywords; volume and issue; publication date; received, revised and accepted dates where records are available; funding and competing-interest statements; recommended citation; licence; PDF; references; and any later correction or retraction notice.
